The Right Time
04:42
|
|||
Time is against us, it's harsh and relentless. It's sending us straight to our end. Time is against us, it's unfair and senseless, but we're not defenseless, my friend. Act with indifference, act with indiignance. Show some resistance toward it.
If you wait for the right time, you could be waiting a lifetime. So ignore your wrist watch [and] that grandfather clock. It outlasted him with its ticks and its tocks and it's not going to stop for you. So don't wait, don't wait.
All of the uses you find for excuses, they're all rendered useless by time
Your best laid plans are out of your hands. Father Time doesn't give a damn and never has. So do what you can in the short time you have, 'cause you won't get it back when it's past.

Fade
02:47
|
|||
You used to have me wrapped around your finger, but I came unwound. I couldn't keep on keeping down that sneaking feeling that something was wrong. I'm moving on. Oh, moving on.
Our paths were not parallel. We intersected fairly well, but now we're traveling away from one another and I feel it fade, fade away. Oh, fade away.
You had my entire heart, but now you have a tiny part and it's getting smaller every day and soon your stake in my heart will fade, fade way. Oh, fade away.

Healing
05:25
|
|||
This could be just what I need, a season to sort my thoughts and catch up on sleep, slow down my dreams. This could be just what you need, some distance to sort through your sins and get back on your feet, find the earth underneath.
I've got some healing to do. Hearts, they were broken and egos were bruised. You've got some healing to do. There's no quick fix for this shit that we've been through.
I'm going home for the summer to those I know understand. You're flying across an ocean to try and find some who can. I'm gonna get my hands dirty, make my immune system stronger.You're gonna scrub away layers of skin until the stains and the scars are no longer.
I used to forget we were separate, it's true. One and one added together can't equal one. They always make two. The numbers don't lie, though we wanted them to. We're just not the same, me and you.

Improvise
03:11
|
|||
Baby, I am bad news. I don't wanna have you picking up a broken heart. No, I'm perfect, but you deserve it, so I'll try and play the part. If you wanna try and play along with me, we can improvise through every single scene.
The curtain comes open and I start hoping I can stay in character. The spotlight hits me and I get dizzy, everything begins to blur. And so I choose to focus only on you.
Act One is through, now on to Act Two and I'm not sure what I wanna do. I wonder if we have the right chemistry to make all the way to Act Three.
I tried to stick to the script, but the script didn't fit. Tried to stick to the script, but couldn't follow it.

Brother
03:28
|
|||
Brother, I think you bit off more than you could chew, and I won't feel sorry when it all starts choking you. Brother, I think you bit off more than you could chew, and I won't feel sorry when I rid myself of you.
One hand reaching out to me, the other aiming right between my shoulder blades with sharp, sharp knives. Man, I lost a lot of blood, I lost a lot of faith in love, but you can have it all, my friend. Whew!
Brother, how do you sleep now, how do you sleep at night? I'm not sure where you got the nerve to go and disturb my life. Brother, how do you sleep now, how do you sleep at night? And I'm not sure what you deserve, but I know it's not my time.
I am not your brother. You better go find another. I am am not your brother. Better go find yourself another.

This Sort of Thing
05:12
|
|||
Oh my God, make it stop now, fix this, please, while I sleep it off. Make me unaware of this, 'cause I wasn't prepared for this at all.
This sort of thing only happens to other. This sort of thing doesn't happen to me. This sort of thing you read in the papers. This sort of thing you see at TV.
Never ask for more from you, never ask no matter how much I want to.

Left and Right
02:25
|
|||
Only black and white, don't try to fight. Only left and right, don't try to divide. Only up and down, there is no middle ground, no how.

Window Pane
03:33
|
|||
With her finger, she writes our names across the window pane inside of my car. She writes them backwards so the traffic passing by us knows exactly who we are. What the point is, I'm not really not sure. I try to her people don't read all that much anymore. But she says, "This window, it is see-through; if they don't read it, they can see me or they can see you." Oh, oh, oh, oh.
She's always sporting shirts with sleeves on which she so proudly wears me. But if she rolls them up, I might fall down. It's my own damn fault if I hit the ground. But she somehow doesn't mind when I rhyme all my contrived complaints in hopes the whole world relates to me. She says, "Your lonely voice is only so strong, don't let it echo so long that it travels away from me." Oh, oh, oh, oh.
Our names are still displayed across the window pane inside of my car, still written backwards so the traffic passing by us knows exactly who we are. And I never got the point, but now I think I know. If you love something, it's all for nothing if you don't let it show. You've got to learn to let it show. Oh, oh, oh, oh.

Detours
02:01
|
|||
In te desert, heading south, driving all the damage out. I'll go until the tank is empty. I'll go until the pain has left me. The indentation on my finger, allows the memories to linger. That subtle ring of pale skin, I want the sun to blend it in. The destination used to be all mapped out so carefully, but detours happen all the time. You got lost and so did I. Yeah, detours happen all the time. You got lost and so did I, so go find yourself and I'll find mine.
